The iPad can be
used to access the SBUMC Network and clinical applications both remotely and
while onsite via wireless. Using the instructions below, you will install an iPad profile that will provide access to both wireless
network while onsite and the VDI (Virtual Desktop Interface) when offsite.
You will also install the Citrix receiver to allow access to our clinical
applications. You must have a UHMC Domain account in order to use this
software after it is installed. Please follow ALL the directions to provide
the required access. Note: Apple iPads
are not Cerner or IT Supported Devices. The following instructions will
require you to utilize your current iTunes account. An iTunes account
requires you to register a personal credit card. SBUMC Information Technology
offers only limited support on these devices related to wireless access and
Citrix connectivity only. All other issues should be directed to your local
Apple Store. Note: iTunes Connectivity: 1st Gen iPad is used for illustration purposes in these
instructions. Installation of Software C.
Installing SBUMC Mobile Config Using iPad
to Access Resources (after following steps above) It is important that your iPad is up to date with the latest iOS
version and updates. In order to
check for these upgrades, please connect your iPad
to iTunes on your computer. It
will check automatically and offer to install. IMPORTANT: If
you currently have set a passcode on your iPad to
secure it, you MUST remove this before installing the configuration profile
below. Simply go to Settings and
General tab and click Passcode Lock to turn it off. B. Connect to the Internet While you can perform these instructions
from anywhere there is a wireless connection (home, hotspot, etc.), you can
also use the sbuh guest wireless while onsite. You
can connect to the guest wireless from your iPad by
performing the following steps: 1. At the home screen, tap the "Settings"
icon. Then tap "Wi-Fi" on the side bar.
2. Under "Choose a Network..." section, tap
on "sbuh". This will connect you to the
guest network. When connected, it will have a check mark next to "sbuh" as shown below.
3. A page will appear asking if you accept the terms.
Tap "Accept & Connect".
C. Installing SBUMC iPad
Mobile Config 1. To connect to the internal secure network using your
iPad, you are first required to install the mobileconfig configuration onto it. To do this, open
safari and type http://remoteaccess.uhmc.sunysb.edu/apple/sbumc-personal-ipad.mobileconfig
into the address field. Note:
If you are viewing this guide on
your iPad, you can just tap on the link above.
You will be
presented with the page shown below.
Press the
"Install" button. 2. Next it will give you a warning if you would like to
still install the Profile. Press the "Install" button.
Note: If you did not
remove the passcode as requested previously and see the screen below, then
cancel and start over being sure to read the Prerequisites. Otherwise you can continue to Step 3.
3. Enter your domain user name here and press
"Next". Note:
Do not add "uhmc\" infront of your
user name
4. And now enter your password here and press
"Next".
5. You will now be asked to enter a Passcode to protect
your device when unattended. Enter your passcode here and tap
"Next". It will ask for it again. Just retype and click
"Next".
6. You have now installed the profile. Tap
"Done".
1. Open iTunes App Store from the Home screen on your iPad. In the App Store home screen, in the upper right
corner is a search box. Tap the search box and type "Citrix
Receiver". In the search results, there should be an App called Citrix
Receiver for iPad. Press on the icon and it will
bring you to this page.
Press the
"Install" button. This should ask you for your Apple account info
so please enter your info. 2. During the install, you should see this icon on your
home screen. The bar will move as it is being installed.
3. When finished, the icon should look like this.
E. Connecting to
SBUMC Resources Your iPad is now
configured to access SBUMC Clinical resources from inside the SBUMC campus
via secure wireless (sbumc). You can also use your iPad off-campus if you have your own wireless connection.
To connect from either location, please decide where you are located and
follow the instructions below.
Now
skip to the Using Citrix VDI (Virtual Desktop
Interface) instructions.

Interface) instructions. F. Connecting Using Citrix VDI (Virtual Desktop
Interface) Note: To use Citrix Receiver, you are required to install
the Mobile Config and
the Citrix Receiver App and have a working WiFi connection. 1. First open the Citrix App from your Home
Screen. The icon should look like
this:

You will now
see the “Welcome to Citrix Receiver” window. Tap on the link under "Set up my
Enterprise app store" that says "Get Started".

In the New
Store window, enter in the Address field” https://vdi.uhmc.sunysb.edu” and
click Next.
4.
In the Store
Verified window, enter in the fields below and Click Save.

Domain UHMC
Username <your
UHMC domain id>
Password <your
UHMC domain password>
5.
You will now
see a Citrix Receiver window, with an icon under Stores called “SBUMC
Virtual Desktop”. Click on
this item.
6.
You will be
prompted for a password ( if you did not set a password above )
7.
You will now
see an icon that says “Windows XP – Windows XP with IE7”,
click on it once.
8.
This will
launch a Windows XP desktop session.
This may take a few moments.
9.
When done, you will
now have a Windows XP Desktop in which you can access the applications /
websites just like you would internally within the Medical Center.
10.
Launching
Internet Explorer will bring to you the Intranet Portal page.
IMPORTANT NOTES A.
If you are
going to disengage temporarily, the preferred method is to click the
“Start” button in the task bar and select
“Disconnect”. B.
If you are
ending your session for the day, simply click the “Start” button
in the task bar and select “Log Off “
