WebVPN Requirements

Remote Access > WebVPN

WebVPN will use your built-in web browser to create a secure connection (a.k.a. "VPN tunnel") to the internal SBUMC network. In order to set this up, you will need a valid UHMC account with RemoteAccess privileges, and your computer will need to have the minimum system requirements below:

A. Account Requirements:

  • UHMC Domain Account
  • RemoteAccess Privileges
  • If you do not have the account requirements above, please visit the following website to apply:

    http://infrastructure.uhmc.sunysb.edu/Helpdesk/forms.htm

    B. Minimum System Requirements:

    1. Operating System.

NOTE: Windows 7 is currently NOT supported. We are waiting for our VPN vendor for a system update... check back soon!

  • Windows Vista
  • Windows XP SP2 or higher
  • Mac OS X 10.3.2 or higher
  • 2. Web Browser.

  • For Windows: Internet Explorer 6.x or higher, Firefox 2.x or higher
  • For Mac: Safari 1.1 or higher
  • 3. Java.

  • JRE 6 or higher (To get the latest Java download, visit http://www.java.com)
  • 4. Antivirus and Anti-Malware.

  • Your computer must have updated antivirus software and be free of malware (spyware, adware, etc.). Make sure to update these applications weekly and run regular scans on your computer.
  • Note: Please be aware that some anti-spyware applications block access to the hosts file on your computer. If you have issues connecting to WebVPN, please modify your anti-spyware settings or temporarily disable/shutoff this software to test.
  • 5. Pop-Up Blocker.

  • Your computer must have its pop-up blocker(s) turned off or you must at least allow all pop-ups from *.uhmc.sunysb.edu in order for WebVPN to work properly. Pop-up blockers are usually built-in to most web browsers, add-on toolbars to web browsers, and may also be 3rd party software that you installed on your computer. Please be aware that you may have more than one pop-up blocker, so be sure to configure all of them accordingly.
  • 6. Administrator Rights.

  • If you plan on using the Network Connect function (not a required feature but provides additional functionality), you will also need administrator rights on your computer in order to install the Network Connect client.
  • Connect to WebVPN Ready to Connect?

If you already have a UHMC domain account with RemoteAccess privileges and your computer meets all the listed system requirements above, please continue to the Setup Instructions...
